The fourth annual Run for Childhood Cancer took over Eau Claire Saturday for the ‘Believe In The Gold’ foundation.
It was a fun family event with costumes, cheerleaders and Global Calgary’s own Linda Olsen as the emcee.
Before the start of the run and walk, police officers and a tactical truck escorted a big cheque for the Alberta Children’s Hospital.
Organizers said this is an event that is close to the heart.
“I’ve watched what my daughter as a 16-year-old, grow into something so amazing and see a $100,000 go to the research of the cancer that she died from and all of these people supporting her dream believing for her,” Shonalie Stadnyk, founder of “Believe in the Gold”, said.
She’s also very proud of the amount raised in the current economy.
Nearly 400 participants and 80 volunteers took in the event Saturday.
Believe in the Gold is a charitable foundation that raises awareness about childhood cancer and funds to help support families with medical expenses that are not covered by Alberta Health Care or extended benefit plans, and raising funds for childhood cancer research.
